Govt Mule Delivers 29 Neil Young Covers With Jackie Greene

Following a set of Gov’t Mule classics, the band and Jackie Greene laid down a marathon 27-song second set and two-song encore featuring Neil Young covers from every era of the legendary guitarist’s career. Greene was on hand not only to play guitar, but to help with the harmonies that are crucial to many a Neil Young song. Of the 29 Neil Young covers Mule performed, only five had been played in the past (“Don’t Let It Bring You Down,” “Ohio,” “Southern Man,” “Rockin In The Free World” and “Cortez The Killer”).
“For The Turnstiles” was performed with Danny Louis and Jorgen Carlsson, while “After The Gold Rush” only featured Louis and Jackie Greene. The “Piece Of Crap” that opened the encore was unique in that drummer Matt Abts fronted the band on guitars and vocals, while Danny Louis played bass and Jorgen took Matt’s spot behind the kit. The song also featured background vocals from crew members T.J. Centrella, Chris Austin & Eric Hanson. Gov’t Mule and Jackie Greene bring “Young Mule” to the Orpheum Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin tonight.
