The Key notes that the clip below first aired on Philadelphia station CBS 3’s Evening Magazine back on November 6, 1979. The feature includes some thoughts from Deadheads who attended the band’s performance at The Spectrum that took place the night before the profile aired as well as an interview with Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia. The Grateful Dead had been around for 14 years at this point and Bobby was not pleased when the host called them symbolic of the ’60s, shouting “we’re not a ’60s band!” and explaining nearly all of the group’s success came in the ’70s. Jerry has a hilarious take on the situation, while Weir calms down. Beyond that Jerry and Bobby discuss their 1978 trip to Egypt and the adventurous spirit of the Grateful Dead.
