The String Cheese Incident Continues March Madness In Oakland & Santa Barbara
By Team JamBase Mar 14, 2016 • 10:33 am PDT
Colorado jam act The String Cheese Incident continued their March Madness Tour on Saturday night at Oakland’s Fox Theatre and on Sunday at Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, California. Both shows featured bust outs and last night’s performance saw the band aided by Zach Gill of ALO for a pair of covers.
On Saturday, SCI concluded a two-night stand at the Fox with a performance that featured a cover of KC & The Sunshine Band’s “Get Down Tonight” as part of the first set. The String Cheese Incident hadn’t performed the disco era classic since October 29, 2005 – a span of 249 shows. The Bay Area finale ended with an encore that included a cover of Jesse Stone’s “Don’t Let Go,” a Jerry Garcia Band favorite. SCI debuted “Don’t Let Go” on November 18, 2014 and had only played it one other time (January 19, 2015). See a full gallery of Susan Weiand’s photos from Saturday night below.

On Sunday, The String Cheese Incident welcomed another member of ALO just two shows after they jammed with Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz at the Fox on Friday. This time around ALO keyboardist Zach Gill had the honors of sitting-in with SCI. Gill’s first guest spot of the night took place towards the end of the first set, when he added to a cover of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody).” Zac returned to help out on an encore of Bob Dylan’s “Quinn The Eskimo.” Cheese’s visit to Santa Barbara also featured the return of “Farther,” an original written by Jim Lauderdale and Bill Nershi off 2005’s One Step Closer that had been missing in action since July 29, 2007.
