Last night Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe began a run of shows with special guest Jimmy Herring. The collaborative show at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia featured the Widespread Panic guitarist sitting-in with KDTU for the majority of the evening.
Herring and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe teamed up in 2015 during Jazz Fest in New Orleans and on Wednesday after Karl D. led his group through “Power Of Soul” by Jimi Hendrix and “My Baby Likes To Boogaloo” the reunion commenced with the other Jimmy H. sitting-in on “Down, Down, Down.”
KDTU kept Herring on stage for the duration of the show, punctuating the first half with “Have You Seen Him,” “When I Get Home” and “Some Skunk Funk.” A cover of David Bowie’s hit “Young Americans” came mid-set that was trailed by renditions of “Millvale, PA,” “Monk Strap” and “Feeling Real.” The main set closed with “Satisfied” and the encore was a performance of “New York City.”
The tour continues tonight at the New Mountain Theatre in Asheville followed by shows at the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte on Saturday and at Terminal West in Atlanta on Sunday. Head here to download audio of last night’s concert, and view audience-shot videos captured by zmanatl below:
