Coldplay Honors Bruce Springsteen With Tom Waits Cover In New Jersey

British pop-rockers Coldplay continued their A Head Full Of Dreams Tour last night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Towards the end of the show, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin paid tribute to both Tom Waits and Bruce Springsteen with a solo acoustic cover of “Jersey Girl.”

Twenty songs into Saturday’s show Martin told the crowd, “This is a Tom Waits song made famous by in my opinion the greatest artist in history Bruce Springsteen.” He then launched into a gorgeous cover of “Jersey Girl,” which as he said was written by Waits but is probably better known (especially in New Jersey) by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s version of the tune.
