Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe :: 04.23.10 :: Brooklyn Bowl :: Brooklyn, New York

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe wrapped up their East Coast run in New York this weekend at the adult playground and music sanctuary Brooklyn Bowl with two nights of eclectic jazz and fiery funk. In a harmonious cosmos where jazz music reigns supreme, the Tiny Universe expelled a rare, extraordinary energy that is inimitable by any other funk act on the jam circuit. The scene was set at Brooklyn Bowl as Kool & the Gang blasted through the speakers and Soul Train videos dominated the big screens in what would become a long night of joyous, horn dominated boogie. Anchored by Karl Denson (saxophone, flute), the Tiny Universe funk troop – Ron Johnson (bass), Chris Littlefield (trumpet), Brian Jordan (guitar), David Veith (keyboards) and John Staten (drums) – played a three hour set of in-your-face classics alongside new tunes off 2009’s Brother’s Keeper.
