According to RollingStone.com, the new Phish album will be titled
Joy.
Following the reunion shows at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum in March (see our coverage here), the foursome
linked up with legendary producer Steve Lillywhite at New York's Chunk King Studios and laid the foundation for the
ten-song album. Trey Anastasio told RS' David Fricke that Joy "feels more like a live record than a
lot of our live records."
Several songs from Joy have already been heard by Phish fans during the first leg of the band's summer
tour, which concluded last week at Wisconsin's Alpine Valley (see our coverage here). New tracks, "Kill
Devil Falls," "Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan" and "Time Turns Elastic" will all appear on Joy and have
already made a strong impression on longtime fans.
Themes on the album include Anastasio's drug addiction, arrest and subsequent sobriety; and the title track was
written when Anastasio's sister was struggling with cancer, she died in April.
Phish just completed a very strong return to the road and JamBase was there. We were on the scene with live Twitter
coverage and setlist updates as well as reviews and pics from every stop on the tour. You can check out all our Phish
Summer Tour coverage HERE.
