Cook - There's gold buried in that opening paragraph!
Why would ANYONE be clamoring for a Led Zep reunion when there's "Bustle In Your Hedgerow"?
The Hedge really rip ass. Good Ass. As in "This is Bustle in Your Hedgerow Good" Ass.
Anyone needing to get their Zep on will find it in abundance at a BIYH show.
I would pass up 10 shitty Zep reunions for one BIYH show.
But then, I saw Zep back in '75 so I don't have a need to see an inferior reunion gig.
Peace to those that do.
In the meantime, check out Bustle for "Everything you needed to know about Led Zeppelin but are too afraid to ask".
Damnit! I really wish BIYH would get their asses to Colorado!
THIS I gotta see!
I'd sell my soul to see a an awesome Zepp perfomance! and this sounds pretty convincing. I have been literally dying to hear more Zepp live! To bad i wasn't alive when the actual band rocked - actually i wasn't even dribble down my daddy's leg back then.
Awesome article as well as pics.
I would gladly read my daily, local obits if they were written by Mr.Cook!
I've seen Bustle twice in Colorado and they fisted everyone within earshot. Russo's interpretation of Bonham is spot-on, which is an amazing feat. All of the important fills and bass drum triplets are covered. Such a frickin' pleasure to watch and hear...
i need to see these guys.
if you want to see a great Led Zeppelin tribute, check out Get the Led Out.
if u like this, make sure to get Holy Haunted Houses, by Gov't Mule.
no quarter is amazing :)
great to see not only a BiYH review, but one by our fave: D.C.
agreed ^^^ w/ above comments so far that Dennis could review Madonna and make her sound great. But in this instance, it's a one-two punch on talent (pen/paper & instrument/microphone)
Also great to see Russo still sweats like he's leaving it all out there every night---- which he does 99% of the time.
also,'get the led out' is a great led zepp. cover band. awesome, in fact. have seen them repeatedly.
REALLY want to see these guys, but haven't had a chance yet. Get the Led Out is alright, they were a bit sloppy when I saw them. ZOSO is where its at for a traditional type Zep cover band. They got their original guitarist back a couple years ago. He is sick!
I was there....this show rocked!
Yes, great review, Dennis you are a great writer! Bustle was amazing!
Guitarmaggedon doing Nirvana though I thought was totally painful. Now to be fair Nirvana was never my favorite, though the guy did write some good lyrics. Zep is pretty trippy stuff and works well with the acid jazz/jamband style. Nirvana though? Not to these ears... I am not a Tea Leaf fan at all though. Josh Clark is ok but the other guy isn't that great and seems totally full of himself. I do like ALO but I have to say that this was one of my least favorite sets that I've heard Dan and Steve play. Part of the problem was that it was painfully loud. I like some loud music but this was the most earsplitting I had heard the Indy ever. It felt like some East Coast clubs - I had to get earplugs.
But as far as Bustle goes they were spot on! Dennis makes a good point about live Zep - after about 72-73 they sound totally fucked up more shows than not. Yes there are some exceptions and some 69-72 stuff is pretty hot but they are pretty hit or miss live. Bustle brings it every time and this time was particularly hot!
There is a link to a nice SBD Matrix recording of this show over on the Benevento/Russo fan site. Also it is worth noting that the Duo turned in a kick-ass set (to a crowd half the size) the night before...
This was a killer show, what a great night at the Indy. The Nirvana was a lot of fun, Josh Cobain really channeled the flannel. I liked Lebo on the lap steel, it gave it a raw sound that Nirvana was known for.
Bustle was great once again. They do a killer interpretation of the Zep. I was really impressed with Scotty's playing he has really mastered his inner "page". Russo was sick on the skins and DD was a riot on "Thank You" once again. The sold out crowd ate it up!
Cook saying this cover band is better than the real thing is just plain moronic. He bases this weak opinion on some bootlegs from the 70s and on a band he's never seen in person. That is shitty journalism in my book. I have some boots of Zep(especially from '75) that blow away anything Bustle can and will ever do(and they are great themselves). Why? because Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band that ever lived. Sure, Page played sloppy sometimes, but his tone and power on the axe is unmatched even to this day. Hell, their reunion show was damn good too, but of course I only saw the boot DVD and listened to the CD. I know some who were there in London and they were blown away.
Long live Zeppelin!!!(& Bustle too)
