Legendary drummer Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste is celebrating his birthday at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco on December 27, 2008. The innovative drummer, who is ageless not only in sound but also in his years, is pleased to announce that the PARTY IS ON! Zigaboo will be playing with his all-star band from the Bay Area, along with some special surprise guests. To make the celebration extra special, Zigaboo has chosen Bay Area songwriter Bhi Bhiman to open for him. After hearing Bhiman perform live, Zigaboo recognized Bhi as a great communicator, musician, stating he is “one of the most talented musicians I’ve seen in a long time.”

Modeliste is a master drummer, percussionist, rhythm innovator and New Orleans legend, the most highly acclaimed drummer ever to hail from the Crescent City. Ziggy’s creativity has been a wellspring of funk influence for three decades for countless musicians and hip-hop samplers. His innovative work as founding member of the internationally acclaimed R&B group, The Meters, as well as his side work with artists like Keith Richards, The New Barbarians, Dr. John and Robert Palmer has garnered him an unparalleled level of respect among musicians and fans.

Known for his syncopated rhythms and unique second line funk styles, Ziggy has been sampled and imitated many times over by artists such as the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Run DMC, NWA, Salt N’ Pepa, Cypress Hill, Naughty by Nature, and Musiq just to name a few. His drum sound also provided the main loop for Amerie’s twice Grammy nominated “1Thing,” which hit #1 on the R&B charts. His tunes have been in used in movies such as Hancock, Jackie Brown, 8 Mile, Drum Line, Two Can Play That Game, a Nike Commercial for Footaction and most recently the TV show, “Ludicris vs. Tommy Lee” on Planet Green.
