Come on BGsteveBG. How many touring acts skip Chicago in a given year?

I would move but I might go road rage in that traffic.

I love this band. I saw them last year for the first time, and was blown away with the quality of music played, as well as the set list. I also happened to be lucky to be close enough not to notice that there might have been a sound problem. The reviews I read afterward noted this. Something about the balcony not being able to hear much, and all. That was in Minneapolis. This time I was able to get tix for Madison. The same place the Trey played a steller show in '99, aka Oscar Meyer theater. I really wish I was able to do more than one show, but i'll tell ya, "One is better than none." Enjoy the tour, everyone!!!!

The track that you can stream here is off of the album "Easy Tiger". I love every track on the album except for "Halloweenhead". It doesn't even seem to fit with the other songs on the album. You shouldn't really judge his music from this one song, but yeah, that is tough about Terrapin if true.

What's the over/under on number of shows he actually plays?

Clearly the two deadheads are just a couple of knuckleheads... if you are really a "deadhead" you wouldnt make comments about forgetting lyrics as Jerry forgot words to his own songs all the time...

Is there one album that someone would recommend more than others from this guy? Thanks.

Smittea - I still haven't given their albums the listens they deserve, but what got me into the Cardinals was this show: http://www.archive.org/details/ra2007-07-21

It's pretty amazing.

For albums, I would start with Cold Roses and Easy Tiger..Halloweenhead is not my favorite but the album is a gem.

Jukebox Hero

Both albums mentioned by jackiesoup are great. The Dead influences on Cold Roses are hard to miss (check out the 1st guitar break on Rosebud and tell me it doesn't remind you of St. Stephen), right down to the cover art. The other album with the cardinals, Jacksonville City Nights, which has a bit more of a country feel, may be my favorite. Also, some of Ryan's albums sans the Cardinals are must-haves, especially Hearbreaker. It's a little more laid back and certainly not something that is danceable at all, but it's flat-out one of the best albums I own, with contributions from Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch. The live show is a nice mix of such softer numbers and rockin' out.

Also, don't be discouraged if you run across some of his stuff that turns you off. This guy is extremely prolific (about an album a year) and unfortunately does not have the best filter. I think he would be much more respected if he would release half the albums he does and include only the best songs, but that's just my opinion. I think he'll go down as one of the best songwriters of his generation regardless, especially for his ability to come up with melodies. It seems like every one of his songs (the good ones anyway) has enough hooks for 5 or 6 good songs. Too bad he's skipping over Portland (again).

Having been to no less than 70 Dead shows, Jerry never missed a lyric. Bobby too. They were sorta deadheadish and they never forgot a lyric...I don't get it?
