Return To Forever Tour Dates

Return To Forever
by Lynn Goldsmith
Return To Forevers classic lineup of keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, guitarist Al Di Meola and drummer Lenny White have announced a tour that will represent their first extensive engagements together in 30 years.

The foursome will play more than 50 dates across North America and Europe, featuring primarily classic music from their chart-topping, critically lauded '70s albums like Romantic Warrior and Where Have I Known You Before. Beginning in Austin, Texas, on May 29th, the legendary supergroup will swing across the U.S. and Canada in June, cross the Atlantic for July dates in Europe from Lithuania to London, then return to the States for an East Coast run of major venues.

"What made me want to do it," Corea told the NY Times, "was just recalling how great the feeling was playing with these guys. Just the experience of playing, when I thought, 'Wow, yeah, that was an amazing period -- fun, creative, exciting.'"

A special Return to Forever anthology compiled from their classic album and featuring dramatic sonic improvements will also be released to coincide with the tour. This definitive collection, which was produced by founding RTF members Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke, is the first to include music from all their albums in one double-CD package.

hell freakin' yeah! Di Meola and Corea know how to get it done. oh and Stanley Clarke's not too shabby either....ha!

I'm glad they picked a larger venue than Yoshi's to showcase this at, since this will definitely be a sweet pick. let's make sure there isn't a conflict for me, for at least one of those two nights....

very cerebral and intellectual music here folks, not for the faint of theory'd.

It won't be 300 bucks a pop, but whatever it is it'll be worth it to see this amazing group.

Nice! Hopefully it is edgy like it was in the 70's. Not looking for cheesey synths or anything. Give it to us raw guys.

Also don't forget that Lenny White has done some amazing stuff. Check out his album Venusian Summer. There is some serious jamming and some really heavy funk on there.

I saw Chick and Bela in Burlington VT last year at the jazzfest. It was one of my favorite concert experiences ever. Ever. The mental speed in which these guys move is unreal. I'll be at the Boston show, right at the end of this tour with Bela. Can't wait. "Top priority of the summer." :)
