I'm a little confused, why is he wearing a moe. shirt when they are playing in the same city at the same time? Must be a big fan I guess.

DB and his band perform at a lot of the same festivals and he knows MOE fans are his stock and trade ... Alot of MOE fans are classic rock fans.

I am not a DB fan as most every time I've seen/heard the band, its nothing but his own ABB tunes. Not really into nostalgia. I know the ABB is full of young guns at this point, certainly not the same ABB as it was, but the ABB has new music, has moved on, which it doesn't seem DB has been able to do to this point.

Moe. and Dickey are friends. He has sat in with them 3 times that I'm aware of. They did a killer Liz Reed 12/30/07!!!

tourfan,

I agree with you about dickey's shows and him not creating anything new for a while. Everytime I've seen him he's been sweating bullets and jawing hard. I think his demons interfere with his creativity. He has written some incredible songs over the years though.

Because Gregg is clean and sober ,dude.

IIRC, Betts played at a moedown a couple years back.

Why does he not play in the Allmans? Well, alchoholic and alleged wife-beating for one. Also, he is the one that refused to learn new tunes and was satisfied with playing the same set list every night. One of the reasons Gov't. Mule is around is because Warren and Woody were sick of playing the same songs, yet needed the constant paycheck. Once the Mule was a viable enity that could pay the bills, they left. Warren only came back after Gregg agreed to change up setlists every night.

That was an oversimplified version of events. I'm sure it was more complicated than that. I saw the Allmans at a 12,000 seat shed while Dickey was playing and there might, might have been 5000 people there. 2 years ago at the same shed, almost sold out. Allmans made the right move for the band. They lost a brother, but saved the family.

the last allmans tour was absolutely smokin'. i've seen them just about every summer for the past 14 years and they've never been as good as they were this year. warren + derek + oteil = sick guitar interplay, unlike anything that warren and dickey ever put together. haven't seen dickey since the breakup, though...hope he's killin' it.

the ABB changing up setlists was the best thing they ever did. adding warren and derek pushed them up another level. The last time I saw DB was in ATL at the variety playhouse. I got there at 10pm to find out that he was done with the first set already. what? its friday night in ATL??? what the hell??

then he never turned around ONCE to let his other guitarist see what he was playing to stay in time with him. for a drumz break, DB kneeled down on sidestage chugged a BUD, smoked a cig. He played one new original, it sounded like tune from santana, and then he was done, he said that it for the show, thats all the tunes I know. all I can say is it was SAD. washed up, sad, and left me feeling like I had wasted my time. I felt sorry for him. I feel sorry that more new material has not been played also. I respect DB totally, he did write some of the greatest tunes. Like Elizabeth Reed :) for this I am thankful. Cheers ya'll!!

Asocer4> Story time . . . At an after-Phish party Moe. show in Vegas one year I saw DB come out and play with Moe. Cactus joined too, it was sweet! I suppose they're all pals. Didn't Moe. open for ABB for a spell?

milesgone> It's my understanding that Barry Oakley wrote 'Liz Reed. I have a live show (perhaps the Ludlow Garage release) where, DB or GA introduces 'Liz Reed an explains that it was written by Barry Oakley.

if im not mistaken isnt moe. managed by hard head management aka stef scamardo aka haynes wife. interesting.

tourfan dickey has released new music. check 2001's Let's All Get Together album.

Milesgone that song was probably Dona Maria.

Tspeer Dickey Betts composed In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. The only ABB songs that I know of that Berry Oakley is credited for are Stand Back, Mountain Jam & Hot 'Lanta(which are both credited to the entire group).

And yeah moe.(thankfully, rather than Lynyrd Skynyrd, otherwise I would have skipped it like it did the year before because LS opened) opened for ABB on the fall 2005 tour.

You are right Abraxas. Liz Reed was the name on a tombstone in a cemetary where DB used to go for romantic interludes with his girl way back when. I saw DB two years ago, exactly one week before I saw ABB. As far as the old ABB songs, I would say that DB nailed 'em. Sounded so much more like the old ABB. Don't get me wrong. I really dig ABB with Warren and Derek. They are just NOT the old ABB. I also believe that DB played several new songs. BTW, the keyboard player in Great Southern sounds sooooo much like Greg did thirty years ageo. It was almost scarey.

First a little rant, who cares what he is wearing is this the jabase fashion page? I'm sure like a lot of people on this page he likes moe, among many other bands who are out today. Also, was anybody in the Allman's inner circle for the 30 years things were going on, or at his house when he was with his wife? If so feel free to leave slanderous comments. Also, who does not sweat? I've played hundreds of shows, and I bet I have sweat at every one of them. In another ON TOPIC note, these are some great pics thanks for giving us a glimpse into what I'm sure was a great show.

Liz Reed, Blue Sky, Les Brer in E Minor, Jessica, High Falls,.. He makes the world a better place to rock out in. Rock music does not get better than the "Fillmore East" album. Its too bad he is such a crazyman. Seriously, how out of line do you have to get in order to be expelled from the Allman Brothers? Its not like he got he got kicked out of Styx. I had to see them play with Zakk Wylde because he was in the clink. The new Allman lineup is happy, vital, and they deserve it.

all this talk makes sense, he is clean and sober and he deserves to have that stability in his recovery, but from a fans standpoint dicky betts and gregg, are the allman brothers. them together is the sound that we will all remember and that will go down in history in our minds and in the archives. it may be selfish but i wish they could get along, but neither seem to really care much so, ill just accept that the allman brothers will never play again.

I have experienced the spectacle of Mr. Betts so wasted that he was falling down, guitar in hand, before a single note had been played. I absolutely love to party as much as the next guy, so I'm not dissing anyone's lifestyle, but I do believe you owe your fans, who plunk their hard-earned money down to see you play, a solid show. Every night.

I was watching "Live at Great Woods" and Dickie was tearing the shit up big time. What a shame. By the way that disc REALLY suffers due to the fact they intersperse interview footage RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of several tunes. WTF?
