Back in January STS9 shocked fans by announcing bassist David Murphy’s departure and cancelling their winter tour. Two-and-a-half months later the band finally returned to the stage last night at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Phoenix, AZ. Alana Rocklin was on bass for the 12-song set which included a pair of debuts -“New Dawn, New Day” and “World Go Round.”

Rocklin, who’s proficient at upright, electric, fretless and midi bass, sat in with the band back on December 28 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta during STS9’s New Year’s Run. Among Alana’s credits are work with Jim James as part of his solo band, backing singer-songwriter Ben Sollee and as the official bassist for producers J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. There’s still been no formal announcement of Rocklin’s role in STS9. Next up for Sound Tribe is a free show in Vail on April 12.
