Historic San Francisco Venue Housed MTV's Real World

Impresario Chet Helms threw many historic concerts at San Francisco's Avalon Ballroom via his Family Dog outfit towards the end of the '60s featuring such legendary acts as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin & Big Brother, Taj Mahal and Pink Floyd. The venue went on to become a movie theater and once again hosted concerts more recently, but it's latest use may make your stomach turn. The room that was once the famed Avalon Ballroom served as the home for the latest cast of MTV's The Real World. Journalist Jesse Jarnow said it best, "if these walls could talk, they'd scream."

SFGate has shared photos of the renovated space which includes the "interior of a grand piano that doubles as wall art." The 29th season of The Real World is expected to debut in January.
