Black Crowes New Album

The Black Crowes
THE BLACK CROWES have completed the recording of their new album and will start mixing in September for a Spring 2008 release. Sixteen new tracks were recorded, none of which have yet been played to a live audience.

The album was recorded at Allaire Studios in Shokan, New York and was produced by Paul Stacey and The Black Crowes. Prior to the start of recording, The Black Crowes brought in Adam MacDougall to perform on keyboards and are proud to announce that Adam will be joining The Black Crowes for future touring. In addition, The Black Crowes invited guitarist Luther Dickinson from North Mississippi Allstars to perform on the record.

Cant wait. Lions was the best of their career, and the Robinson brothers' new live album is terrific.

You should care because the Crowes are one of the finest American rock n' roll bands of the last 20 years. And not to mention the most under rated, period.

The Black Crowes are one of "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Bands in the World". However, all I want (as do Many "TRUE FANS" of The Black Crowes) is to see the brothers Chris & Rich Robinson bring back ED HARSCH and get MARC FORD ass back on stage. Without these two great musicians in The Black Crowes, then the band will never live up to the true Rock 'n' Roll machine as we have known in the past.

Marc Ford's latest release, "Weary & Wired" is Great music! So get out and support one of the greatest guitar players EVER !

I agree that the Crowes need to get over whatever beef they have with Marc F'n Ford and Eddie Harsch and put the band back where they were in '05-'06. I support the new lineup, especially if it includes Luther, but this band really needs Marc Ford.

forgive me for being a lost crowe here... but... WHO'S in the band now??? chris, rich and who else this week?
asheville 2005 was beyond stellar... STELLAR!!! marc ford was jaw dropping (even though for most of his solos the spotlight was on rich). then last year in charlotte the shw was 'eh' at best. im going to have trouble accepting BC without the most talented musician they have ever had. ford was/is brilliant.
aside from that, the only person for the last 10 years who you KNEW would be on stage with the brothers the day of the show was eddie. now he's gone? these guys have more issues and troubles and lineup changes(and great music) than van halen!

I saw the black crowes at the taste of chicago this year and they were completely flat, no energy at all from their set. I ended up leaving halfway through the set. I was expecting a whole lot more from the crowes and i was really dissapointed. But on a brighter note, umphrey's blew it out of the water that day.

Current Lineup:

Chris Robinson - vocals
Rich Robinson - guitar
Steve Gorman - drums
Sven Pipien - bassist
Paul Stacey - guitar
Adam McDougal - keyboardist

On September 5, 2006, on the verge of a fall tour, guitarist Marc Ford quit the band, barely a week after the Black Crowes fired longtime keyboard player Ed Harsch citing personal issues.

Marc Ford said he left the Crowes due to concerns that his health "and all the difficult work he has done to gain his longest period of sobriety ever was in jeopardy while touring."

Replacing the two departed members were Paul Stacey on guitar and Rob Clores on keyboards.

On August 3, 2007, the Black Crowes introduced a new keyboard player - Adam MacDougall - which replaced Rob Clores, less than a year after Clores had joined the band.

They need Jimmy Page to join the band. That shit from the Greek was great!

Jimmy was the weak link from the Live at the Greek cd.

i'll have to agree with durkadurka Matt Damon on this one. well really that whole CD is trash to my ears. still i love the Crowes, but i won't be at the Ryman later this month when they're there. if G-Mac joins the band, then i'll return, or i'll settle for Audley Freed!

Hmmm.....George McConnell certainly would be an interesting choice. He surely made enough chedda while holding down the Panic gig for a while, so now he should be pretty much free to do the things he wants to do.

IMO, Black Crowes "Southern Harmony & Musical Companion" just may have been the last great "classic rock" LP recorded. Was my wake-n-bake bong-smoking record for the longest, giving Lowell George & Little Feats' "Waiting for Columbus" a run for it's money. It certainly was the shizzy, in it's day, but also, IMO, the Crowes have fuckin' SUCKED since then, and for a long time, have just been a lame-ass, no energy band riding on long-past laurels, which is too bad, cuz they had so much hope starting out. Have seen them 5 or 6 times since those early days, hoping and praying for a rekindling of early flames, and have been sorely disappointed every time.

Maybe now, they can get it right again. We shall see.

There's no doubt in my mind that the best shows the Crowes ever put on happened in '05-'06 w/ the Chris, Rich, Eddie, Marc, Sven, Steve lineup. They were looser than they'd ever been, they were changing up the setlist every night (even if they did play Sting Me second every night), they were throwing in acoustic sets, working more covers into the rotation, and on and on. For that magical year and a half, they were the best rock and roll band on the planet (with loving respect to the Rolling Stones). The guitar interplay between Rich Robinson and Marc Ford was sublime.

It's just hard to accept the Crowes in their current state when we've so recently seen what they are truly capable of. I can't think of many guitar players that could bring that magic back...Luther is certainly one of them, but he's busy already...McConnell (aka Hackey McPickguard) is not one of them, and of course his schedule is wide open. My advice to the Crowes is to call up Dickey Betts and make him an offer. He can play killer slide, can hold his booze/drugs, and already loves to fight backstage.
