Yonder Mountain String Band dug into their archives to release pro-video featuring their performance of “Granny Wontcha Smoke Some Marijuana” from 2000 in honor of the “Stoner Holiday” of 4/20. “Granny Wontcha Smoke Some Marijuana” is played in the video by the original YMSB lineup of mandolinist Jeff Austin, guitarist Adam Aijala, bassist Ben Kaufmann and banjo player Dave Johnston.
The performance starts at 4:20 on June 23, 2000 at the Dexter Lake Music Festival in Dexter, Oregon. Dexter Lake was a precursor to the Northwest String Summit festival. “Granny Wontcha Smoke Some Marijuana” was written by John Hartford and was a staple of Yonder’s repertoire through Austin’s departure from the group in 2014. YMSB also has often performed Hartford’s “2 Hits And The Joint Turned Brown.”
