Willie Nelson Brings Out Mike McCready For Pearl Jam Cover In Maui

Willie Nelson delivered a holiday concert at Kahului, Hawaii’s Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Friday. The legendary Texan and Hawaii resident was joined by his sons, Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson, as well as Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready over the course of the concert.

Willie loaded the show with favorites performed in a stripped-down format beginning with staple opener “Whiskey River.” Next, Nelson offered a number of his most iconic tunes in a medley which included “Funny How Time Slips Away,” “Crazy” and “Night Life.”

Lukas would help his dad on the Larry Davis-co-penned, Stevie Ray Vaughan-popularized “Texas Flood” before Micah joined for his collab with his father, “Die When I’m High (Halfway To Heaven).” Willie also added in additional favorites like “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” “On The Road Again,” “Always On My Mind” and “Good Hearted Woman.”

Following the latter, Mike McCready joined Willie, Lukas, Micah and company for a gorgeous rendition of Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe,” appearing on the rockers’ 2009 album Backspacer. With McCready on acoustic guitar, Lukas and Willie swapped verses and harmonized on the bridges. Mike also delivered a sweet solo ahead of the song’s conclusion.
