Widespread Panic Welcomes Marcus King For ‘Mountain Jam’ At Wanee Festival

The 2017 Wanee Festival continued on Friday at the Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. Widespread Panic headlined the action yesterday and paid tribute to one of the festival’s founders, Butch Trucks, with a rare cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Mountain Jam” featuring special guest Marcus King.

Widespread Panic had dusted off a portion of “Mountain Jam” for the first time since 1988 last summer in Las Vegas. The Wanee version was much longer and contained solos from King and Jimmy Herring, the drums and percussion duo of Duane Trucks and Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz, bassist Dave Schools and keyboardist JoJo Hermann.

The “Mountain Jam” performance came within Widespread Panic’s first set in the U.S. since New Year’s Eve. Panic presented material from throughout their career ranging from classics “Lil Kin,” “Junior,” and “Tall Boy” to more recent fare such as “Cease Fire” and “Saint Ex.” The band said farewell with an encore of “Blackout Blues” and “End Of The Show.” Wanee concludes today with the Trey Anastasio Band, Bob Weir & The Campfire Band, Gov’t Mule and more.
