Widespread Panic covering “Man On The Moon” with R.E.M.’s Mike Mills is the latest pro-shot video footage shared by the band from their Halloween 2019 concert in New Orleans. That night saw the band performing a number of songs as part of an Andy Kaufman-themed concert.
Mills co-founded R.E.M. in Athens, Georgia, where WSP also got their start. The multi-instrumentalist joined Panic during part of the second set of the October 31, 2019 show at UNO Lakefront Arena. Mills added keys to a cover of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” played guitar on David Bowie’s “Starman” and bass on “Man On The Moon,” which also featured his signature backing vocals. He also participated in the wild antics during the encore.
“Man On The Moon,” whose lyrics mention Andy Kaufman, appeared on the R.E.M.’s 1992 album Automatic For The People. The song’s title was used for the 1999 biopic starring Jim Carrey as the late comedian.
Widespread Panic will again celebrate Halloween at UNO Lakefront Arena with a three-night run starting tomorrow. Watch Mills join WSP on “Man On The Moon” from Halloween 2019 below:
