Widespread Panic continues to roll out pro-shot video from their Halloween 2019 concert in New Orleans and the latest features the band’s debut cover of David Bowie’s “Starman.” R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills joined Panic on guitar and vocals at UNO Lakefront Arena on October 31, 2019 for what still stands as their lone take on the Bowie classic.

Both Widespread Panic and R.E.M. were formed in Athens, Georgia. Mills had previously sat-in with the sextet in Athens on April 2 and 3, 2000 as well as in Atlanta on December 30, 2006 and December 30, 2009. Mike’s appearance at WSP’s Halloween 2019 tribute to the late Andy Kaufman came towards the backend of the second set for debut covers of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” and R.E.M.’s “Man On The Moon.” Mills returned as part of a wild and controversial encore.

David Bowie originally wrote and recorded “Starman” for his iconic 1972 studio album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. Panic guitarist John Bell handled lead vocals on the cover with Mike Mills and Dave Schools singing harmony.

Widespread Panic, who kick off a three-night Halloween Weekend run at UNO Lakefront Arena this Friday, previously shared pro-shot video featuring George Porter Jr. fronting the group on The Meters' “Hey Pocky Way” from Halloween 2019. See “Starman” from the same show below:
