Widespread Panic Bookends Night 2 Of New Year’s Run In Atlanta With ‘Porch Song’

Widespread Panic continued their 2018 New Year’s Run with the second of three consecutive shows at the Fox Theater in Atlanta on Sunday night. The band bookended the evening with one of their most beloved songs, as they opened with the slow version of “Porch Song” and concluded the night with the standard version.

After the slow “Porch Song” to open, the quintet dusted off “Chunk Of Coal” for the first time since December 29, 2016 – a span of 106 shows. Next up was a “Christmas Katie” featuring “Action Man” within that led into “Radio Child.” Panic then treated fans to “Gradle” and “Cotton Was King” before closing out the frame with the pairing of “Big Wooly Mammoth” and “Love Tractor.”

John Bell & Co. came out of the gates with “Hatfield” for Sunday’s second set. From there, WSP worked “Surprise Valley” into “Tie Your Shoes” and “Blue Indian.” An expansive “Rebirtha” came next featuring a “Ball Of Confusion” jam. Bell then led his mates through “Ribs & Whiskey” before the rare drums-less set ended with a run of “Sleeping Man,” “Climb To Safety” and “Tall Boy.” Panic kicked off the encore with “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” and kept the “P”s coming with “Proving Ground” and the aforementioned “Porch Song” finale. Widespread Panic returns to the Fox to ring in 2019 tonight.
