Widespread Panic revealed the next installment of their ongoing multi-track live archival release series. The group’s former guitar tech and longtime WSP fan Sam Holt was tapped to select the show that took place on September 28, 1995 at the Tennessee Amphitheater in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Available on July 20, Knoxville 1995 was mastered and mixed by WSP’s longtime producer John Keane. The release begins with the cover of Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy.” Set one that evening also included a cover of The Meters’ “Just Kissed My Baby” as well as classic Panic originals such as “Tall Boy,” “Space Wrangler” and “Walking (For Your Blues).” A cover of Vic Chesnutt’s “Let’s Get Down To Business” began the second set that later featured covers of Talking Heads’ “Papa Legba” and Van Morrison’s “And It Stoned Me” alongside originals like “Diner,” “Rock” and “Conrad.” A take on James Taylor’s “Knocking ‘Round The Zoo” filled the encore slot and closed out the show.

This show had always been stuck in my mind as one of the best I ever saw but the available recordings did not even come close to capturing the band as they should. So when the opportunity arose to choose a show for release I kept my fingers crossed that the band’s own multitrack tapes were in good condition. I was happy to find out that they were and that the band’s longtime producer, John Keane, would be mixing the show from this source.
