Ween initiated a three-night Halloween run at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on Friday. The concert featured a bust out of “Can U Taste the Waste?,” which had been played by the band just one time prior, back in 1995.

Friday’s show started with “Strap On That Jammy Pac,” one of several songs making a setlist for the first time this year. The recently busted out “I Wuz Nothin” was played for just the fourth time and “The Stallion Pt. 1” was followed by just the 10th known performance of “The Stallion Pt. 2.”

In the middle of the set, guitarists Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman and Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo, went acoustic for “Scrape The Mucus Off My Brain,” “Tried and True‍,” and the recently debuted “Cornbread Red‍,” (the latter two songs requiring re-starts). Elsewhere in the set, Ween offered favorites such as “Piss Up a Rope,” “Transdermal Celebration,” “Roses Are Free” “With My Own Bare Hands,” “Mononucleosis” and “Meningitis (Got Me Down),” among others. The main set closed with a sequence made up of “Your Party,” a cover of “The Enabler” by Instant Death and “Fat Lenny.”

The encore began with “Can U Taste the Waste?,” which appeared on Ween’s 1991 album, The Pod and had been performed in full once before at a show in Australia on April 20, 1995, (a gap of 693 shows). At the brief song’s conclusion, Deaner asked “one more time?” before the band launched into a second performance. After the second run-through, he joked about a third rendition while asking for $20 to do so. The encore continued with another rarity, “The Rift” and ended with “Someday.”

Ween returns to the Mission Ballroom for shows tonight and on Halloween. Listen to an audience recording of Friday’s concert taped by Mike B below:
