Greensky Bluegrass headed to their home state of Michigan last week for a show at The Fillmore in Detroit, followed by a pair of concerts at Kresge Auditorium in Interlochen. Night one in Interlochen featured fellow Michigan native May Erlewine sharing the stage again with GSBG.
Greensky Bluegrass mandolinist Paul Hoffman, guitarist Dave Bruzza, dobro player Anders Beck, banjoist Michael Arlen Bont and bassist Mike Devol summoned the assistance of Erlewine in the middle of Friday’s second set. After playing “New & Improved,” Beck took a moment to speak to the home state audience.
“This feels like Michigan Greensky in here, and it feels fucking great, I’ll tell you that much,” Beck said. “One of the things that makes the great state of Michigan, the great state of Michigan, is our friend May Erlewine.”
After arriving onstage with GSBG, Erlewine dueted with Hoffman on “Beauty And Pain.” She then led the band through her original, “That’s My Home.” The politically motivated song appeared on the singer-songwriter’s 2019 album, Second Sight.
