Wednesday kicked off a two-nighter at Brooklyn Steel on Tuesday. Opener Daffo joined the band led by Karly Hartzman on Wednesday’s song, “Phish Pepsi.”
Wednesday’s current tour supports their recently released album, Bleeds, which includes “Phish Pepsi” among its 12 tracks. The song originally appeared on the Guttering EP released by Wednesday and (current non-touring member) MJ Lenderman in 2021.
Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio mentioned “Phish Pepsi” on the latest episode of Cory Wong’s Wong Notes podcast. Anastasio professed his fondness for Wednesday, “despite” their song disparaging his band.
“I love Wednesday, despite the ‘Phish Pepsi’ song,” Anastasio told Wong. “I was kind of honored. I was running, I was like, ‘man, this record is so good.’ Then it’s like, wait a minute.”
Wednesday returns tonight for a second show at Brooklyn Steel. Daffo, Philly-born singer-songwriter Gabi Gamberg, will again provide support.
