This past Thursday night Gov’t Mule headlined the second day of Floyd Fest 18 in Floyd, Virginia. Warren Haynes & Co. were joined by Lukas Nelson for a portion of the set and video of the guest appearance has surfaced.
Mule opened their Main Stage performance with “Traveling Tune” off 2017’s Revolution Come … Revolution Go. The band then worked “Railroad Boy” into the title track from the 2017 LP before connecting “Rocking Horse” and “Pressure Under Fire.” A cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Dreams” was followed by Nelson’s sit-in.
Gov’t Mule and Lukas Nelson tore through Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Lukas is no stranger to the song having backed Neil on dozens of versions with Promise Of The Real over the past few years. Haynes inserted a tease of Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” after singing the lyric “Machine gun hand.” The rest of the ensemble followed along for an instrumental foray on the Band Of Gypsys classic before they finished “Rockin’ In The Free World.” The quartet ended the set with fan-favorite “Banks Of The Deep End” and a run of “Time To Confess” > “Mule” > “Soulshine.”
