Watch Warren Haynes’ Uplifting ‘Soulshine’ Performance With Global Musicians

Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes was joined by musicians from around the world for an inspired version of his signature song, “Soulshine.” Video showing the making of the globally-infused “Soulshine” is the latest installment of Playing For Change’s Song Around The World series and can be viewed below.

Penned by Haynes, “Soulshine” was originally released by blues guitarist Larry McCray on his 1993 record, Delta Hurricane. Warren Haynes and The Allman Brothers Band issued a version in 1994 on Where It All Begins featuring Gregg Allman on lead vocals. “Soulshine” has been a staple of Haynes’ myriad projects ever since.

The Song Around The World take on “Soulshine” features Warren Haynes accompanied by slide guitarist Roberto Luti (Livorno, Italy), bassist Duda Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil), percussionist Mohammed Alidu (Tamale, Ghana), drummer Peter Bunetta (Los Angeles, United States), percussionist Guga Machado (Sao Paulo, Brazil), vocalists Sherieta Lewis & Roselyn Williams (Trenchtown, Jamaica), Kawai Hoe (Haiku, United States) on ukulele and vocals, keyboardist/vocalist Ivan Neville (New Orleans, United States), vocalist Shemekia Copeland (Venice Beach, United States), saxophonist Mathieu Aupritre (Toulouse, France) and the Cape Town Ensemble (Cape Town, South Africa) choir.

Past Playing For Change Song Around The World videos have included “The Weight,” “Iko Iko” and of course the “Ripple” that concluded JamBase’s 2015 tribute to 50 years of the Grateful Dead.

Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule kick off a three-night New Year’s Eve run at The Met Philadelphia on December 29. The quartet then returns to The Beacon Theatre in New York City on December 30 and 31.
