One of the last known recordings of Dr. John, who died in 2019, is featured in a video for “Iko Iko.” Playing For Change put together the clip for the “Song Around The World” series which includes contributions from Grateful Dead/Dead & Company drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart.

Fittingly, Playing For Change’s “Iko Iko,” a traditional New Orleans song, puts the focus on musicians from the Big Easy including Ivan Neville, George Porter Jr. and Donald Harrison. “Uniting musicians from Central Africa’s Congo to New Orleans’ Congo Square, this video serves to reconnect hearts and minds around the world through music,” explained Playing For Change in a note accompanying the video.

Proceeds from the “Iko Iko” video will benefit a number of organizations via the Playing For Change Foundation. “Your donation supports organizations working for social justice in marginalized and underserved communities around the world,” reads a note from the Playing For Change Foundation. “All donations will benefit the Playing For Change Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Remember Slavery Programme, Sankofa, Bob Marley Foundation, Silkroad, and The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”
