Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes performed his signature song, “Soulshine,” on Tuesday’s episode of Good Day New York. Haynes appeared on the New York City Fox affiliate’s morning show to promote The Brothers’ upcoming two-night stand at Madison Square Garden.
Warren Haynes will be joined by fellow The Allman Brothers Band alumni drummer Jaimoe, guitarist Derek Trucks, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Chuck Leavell and percussionist Marc Quinones for the concerts at The Garden on Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16. Drummer Joe Russo, keyboardist Reese Wynans and drummer Isaac Eady round out The Brothers’ lineup.

Larry McCray originally recorded the Haynes-penned “Soulshine” for his 1993 album, Delta Hurricane. The Allman Brothers Band then included a version on their 1994 LP, Where It All Begins, featuring Gregg Allman on vocals.
Warren Haynes has brought “Soulshine” with him to several projects over the past 30 years, including Gov’t Mule, the Warren Haynes Band, Phil Lesh & Friends and solo performances over the past 30 years. Haynes performed the song solo on Good Day New York, accompanying himself on Les Paul electric guitar.
“What a beautiful rendition of the song ‘Soulshine’ and the shortest rendition of the song I’ve ever heard,” quipped Good Day New York co-host Curt Menafee. Haynes explained The Brothers haven’t performed together since their debut performance under the moniker in 2020.
Warren also revealed The Brothers are likely to stick to the ABB catalog rather than include any of Haynes solo material in the setlists. Menafee recalled first seeing Derek Trucks perform as an 11-year-old. “I did too! That’s the first time I saw him, when he was 11-years-old and he was great then,” Haynes responded.
