Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash kicked off his traveling S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival tour this past weekend with concerts in Bonner, Montana on Friday and Airway Heights, Washington on Saturday. The Warren Haynes Band is serving as direct support for the first seven dates of the trek and welcomed Slash and vocalist Myles Kennedy to sit-on on their “Soulshine” finale on Saturday at BECU Live at Northern Quest Resort & Casino in Airway Heights.

The Allman Brothers Band/Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes is joined in the latest Warren Haynes Band lineup by keyboardist Matt Slocum, Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott and drummer Terence Higgins. Haynes’ ensemble was part of a S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival bill in Washington state along with Slash, Samantha Fish and Eric Gales.

The GN’R guitarist put together the tour to support his recently released solo blues album, Orgy Of The Damned. Slash’s band for the record and tour also includes bassist Johnny Griparic, keyboardist Teddy “ZigZag” Andreadis, guitarist Tash Neal and drummer Michael Jerome.

Warren Haynes was Slash’s special guest on opening night in Bonner, Montana, where he let the fretboard fireworks fly on Elmore James’ blues classic “Shake Your Money Maker.” Myles Kennedy sang “Crossroads” with his former Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators bandmate in Airway Heights.

“Soulshine,” Haynes’ signature song, was the finale of his five-song set on Saturday. The Warren Haynes Band also performed Mule classics “Beautifully Broken” and “Thorazine Shuffle,” solo gem “Man In Motion” and “Instrumental Illness” from his time in The Allman Brothers Band. While Warren Haynes wrote “Soulshine,” the song was originally released by blues axeman Larry McCray on his 1993 LP, Delta Hurricane. The Allman Brothers Band issued their version the following year on the group’s Where It All Begins album.

Warren Haynes and Myles Kennedy shared vocal duties on “Soulshine” in Airway Heights. Haynes, Slash and Medeski each took solos during the tune. Slash and Warren Haynes traded licks to bring “Soulshine” and the set to its conclusion.
