Warren Haynes And Ashes & Dust Band Honors Eric Clapton In Spokane
By Scott Bernstein Mar 31, 2016 • 11:58 am PDT
On Wednesday night, guitarist Warren Haynes continued the latest leg of his Ashes & Dust Tour at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane, Washington. Warren’s band for the tour features members of ChessBoxer and drummer Jeff Sipe. Haynes and the Ashes & Dust Band started with a tribute to legendary musician Eric Clapton, who was celebrating his 71st birthday.
The guitarist and his band kicked off the festivities with the Ashes & Dust Tour debut of the Derek & The Dominos classic “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?” Haynes had previously performed the song both with The Allman Brothers Band and as a member of Phil Lesh & Friends. Eric Clapton wrote “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?” with Bobby Whitlock for inclusion on the lone Derek & The Dominos studio album Layla & Other Love Songs.
Last night’s show rolled on with a mix of choice covers and originals including a handful of songs from Warren’s Ashes & Dust LP. Among the covers performed were The Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica,” “Blue Sky” and “Instrumental Illness” as well as Little Feat’s “Skin It Back” and Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Going Nowhere.” The evening ended with the group’s second performance of Lead Belly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” of the year and Haynes’ country-rocker “Two Of A Kind Blues.”
Warren Haynes and the Ashes & Dust Band continue the tour tomorrow night in Denver.
