Vulfpeck Completes 3 Night Run In Brooklyn With Help From Rachael Price

Michigan funk act Vulfpeck kicked off a series of fall dates that will bring them to Europe and then back to America with a three-night stand at Brooklyn Steel in New York City this past weekend. In typical Vulf fashion, the band welcomed many regular collaborators over the course of the run and also brought out Rachael Price of Lake Street Dive as part of Sunday’s finale.

The main Vulfpeck lineup was augmented at points all weekend long by such longtime friends as guitarist Cory Wong, vocalist Antwaun Stanley, multi-instrumentalist Joey Dosik and percussionist Richie Rodriguez. In addition, tuba wiz Ibanda Ruhumbika of Jon Batiste & Stay Human emerged to help out on covers of Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman” sung by Antwaun. Stanley also sung such songs as “Funky Duck” and “1612” each night.

As per Live For Live Music, other Vulfpeck guests in Brooklyn included trombonist Melissa Gardiner and Mark Dover on clarinet. Despite having a new album in the can, the ensemble shied away from new material with the exception of Sunday’s live debut of “Animal Spirits,” a song off 2016’s The Beautiful Game. Vulfpeck also honored the late Walter Becker with a few bars of “FM” by Steely Dan and worked in covers of Al Green’s “Lord Will Make A Way,” John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Say You Love Me” within the run. Sunday’s cover of “Say You Love Me” featured Rachael Price on lead vocals.

Vulfpeck now heads to Europe.
