Vince Staples Brings New Album ‘Cry Baby’ To NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Vince Staples recently recorded a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music. The Long Beach rapper was backed by a live band for the session centered on songs from his just-released album, Cry Baby.

Issued in June through Staples’ Section Eight Arthouse imprint in partnership with Loma Vista Recordings, Cry Baby followed his 2024 LP, Dark Times. The Tiny Desk set began in the same fashion as Cry Baby, opening with “Blackberry Marmalade,” trailed by “Go! Go! Gorilla” and “White Flag.”

Staples, who was backed by guitarists Jennifer Haack and Mikaiah Lei, bassist Chloe Haack and drummer Myles Martin, then turned to Dark Times for “Shame On The Devil.” The session concluded with the Cry Baby track “Only In America.”
