The latest release from funk-soul act Snarky Puppy, Family Dinner, was recorded earlier this year at Jefferson Center’s Shaftman Hall in Roanoke, VA; where the band performed in front of about 100 concertgoers with the help of a steady stream of guests. The show was a benefit with the aim of bringing attention to the non-profit arts center and included appearances from the likes of Lalah Hathaway, N’Dambi, Lucy Woodward, and Chantae Cann joined Malika Tirolien, Magda Giannikou, Shayna Steele and Tony Scherr.

As we mentioned last month, Snarky Puppy have been unveiling the tracks from Family Dinner as live videos on YouTube. Late last month the band shared their performance of “Something” featuring vocalist Lalah Hathaway. The classically trained vocalist, and daughter of soul legend Donny Hathaway, impresses all the way throughout her dynamite vocal performance, but it’s something that happens during a scat session around the 6:10 mark that really blows minds. Hathaway actually creates a chord of multiple notes with her voice. Both the band and audience react with shock and awe at Lalah’s feat. Check it out:
