Earlier this year we mentioned that the United States Postal Service was about to start rolling out more stamps featuring iconic musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Bill Monroe and Janis Joplin over the coming months and years. A Jimi Hendrix stamp was unveiled in March and now the Janis Joplin stamp artwork has been revealed.

According to Linn’s Stamp News, the Janis Joplin stamp is expected to be issued in August and was first unveiled in a recent issue of the USPS USA Philatelic catalog for stamp collectors.

“Janis Joplin (1943-1970) was a groundbreaking singer whose powerful, bluesy voice propelled her to the pinnacle of rock stardom. An icon of the 1960s, she was known for her uninhibited and soulful performances. Joplin is now recognized as one of the greatest rock singers of all time, as well as a pioneer who paved the way for other women in rock music,” reads a description that accompanies each sheet of 16 stamps.
