Generally, the United States Postal Service keeps the list of stamps they are planning and designing close to the vest. The aim is to make a big splash when they actually announce the stamps are going into circulation. However, we now know what stamps are in the works, including a slew of music-related offerings, thanks to a Washington Post report.

According to a list obtained by the Post, the USPS will unveil stamps sporting the images of music icons Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin later this year, while James Brown and Elvis Presley stamps are among the 2015 music-related offerings. A Music Icons series of stamps featuring Bill Monroe, Jim Morrison, Sam Cooke, Tammy Wynette, “Fats” Waller, Freddie Fender, John Lennon, Roy Orbison, Sarah Vaughan, Willie Dixon and Michael Jackson have also been approved, with no release date mentioned. A John Lennon stamp would break a long-standing tradition of only featuring Americans on stamps.
