Umphrey’s McGee Ryan Stasik & Jake Cinninger Talk Metal On ‘Timeless Music Podcast’

The second episode of the recently launched The Timeless Music Podcast features two members of Umphrey’s McGee discussing their love of heavy metal and the genre’s influence on the band. Bassist Ryan Stasik and guitarist Jake Cinninger chatted for over an hour with metal historian Kevin Cassels and podcast host Rob Turner.
Jake brought his guitar and had an amp set up so that he could illustrate his points musically throughout the engaging conversation. Cinninger and Stasik both discussed how they came to find metal and how they each still love hard-edged music. The pair offer insight about how metal-heavy UM originals “Plunger,” “Miss Tinkle’s Overture,” “Bridgeless,” and “Wizard Burial Ground” were written and the significance of artists like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Vanilla Fudge, Van Halen and many others.
