On Thursday night Umphrey’s McGee began a three-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. The prog-jam-rockers marked the opening night of their ninth consecutive summer headlining the iconic venue with a bust out and a pair of Pink Floyd tunes.

Umphrey’s McGee got their trio of shows in The Centennial State going with the one-two punch of “There’s No Crying In Mexico” > “40s Theme.” From their, the sextet reached for “Intentions Clear” which served as the opener for a lengthy segue-filled run. The track from The Bottom Half worked its way into “North Route” which was seeing action for just the fifteenth time in its short history. “Conduit” followed as the band dropped just their 5th ever take on “Proverbial” in the middle of it dusting off the long-lost tune for the first time since December 30, 2014 – a span of 335 shows. Umphrey’s brought their first of six sets at Red Rocks to a close pairing an old-school workhorse with a newer tune serving up “Nothing Too Fancy” with the it’s not us track “Dark Brush.”

The Chicago-native band opened up their second frame of the night with a pair of Pink Floyd covers looking to the British band’s seminal 1979 double-album The Wall for “In The Flesh?” > “Another Brick In The Wall.” The two songs were last played in November of last year at The Orpheum Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin where they were also paired with each other. “Stinko’s Ascension” followed as a pair Anchor Drops tracks were tapped next as “Wife Soup” segued straight into “Miss Tinkle’s Overture.” The fourth ever stab at “Triangle Tear” from Umphrey’s surprise release it’s you and the recently revived “Roctopus” brought the stanza to an end. “Divisions” served as the encore for the band’s opening night in Morrison.
