Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss & Andy Farag Perform Together For ‘Wine Not?’

Umphrey’s McGee band mates, guitarist Brendan Bayliss and percussionist Andy Farag, reunited on Friday night during Bayliss’ weekly at-home livestream series, Wine Not?. Regular Wine Not? guests, Bayliss’ wife Annie Bayliss and their neighbor Tony (T-Bird), were among the participants that also included Brendan and Tony’s longtime friend Dave Thompson.

Brendan began the acoustic set with “August” wrapped around a rendition of “Whistle Kids.” He then played “Backfire,” a song from his 30db project with the late Jeff Austin. Next came covers of UB40’s “Red Red Wine” and Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Life By The Drop,” the latter featuring Tony on harmonica. The pair then played “No Diablo” before Brendan welcomed Thompson to join him on the couch. Thompson, who previously joined Brendan at a holiday show with UM guitarist Jake Cinninger, reprised that performance by singing Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Only Living Boy In New York.”

The trio stayed with Paul Simon’s songbook for covers of “The Boxer” and “Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard.” An off-camera broom swinger added cymbal crashes to “The Boxer” and Farag played congas on “Me & Julio.” The pair of Umphrey’s McGee band mates were left alone for a performance of “Remind Me,” followed by “No Comment” into “Cut The Cable.” Bayliss and Farag transitioned into and out of Bob Marley’s “Rastaman Chant” during “Cut The Cable.” Brendan moved to piano for the final two songs of the set that featured all of the evening’s performers (Tony and Andy off-camera) covering The Band’s “It Makes No Difference” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience.”
