Irish rockers U2 will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their groundbreaking The Joshua Tree album with a series of stadium shows. The band will perform their classic fifth album in its entirety at each stop with Mumford & Sons, OneRepublic and The Lumineers aboard as support on select dates in North America. U2 also revealed they will headline Bonnaroo, their first-ever U.S. festival headlining appearance.
The tour starts at BC Place in Vancouver on May 12. From there, Bono & Co. visit Seattle, Santa Clara, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and Pittsburgh ahead of their headlining stop at Bonnaroo. The tour continues at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 11 and then hits Tampa, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Toronto, Boston, East Rutherford and Cleveland. A European Tour will follow the North American leg.
“It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally written, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk. To celebrate the album – as the songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too – we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it,” said U2 guitarist The Edge. “Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years…it’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats… I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night,” added Bono.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, January 17.
