Twiddle Covers Disco Era Classic With Members Of Turkuaz At Tumble Down

The first-ever Tumble Down Festival got underway on Friday at The Waterfront on Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont. Festival hosts Twiddle headlined the action, as they will again today, and welcomed members of Turkuaz for the evening’s grand finale.

Annie In The Water stepped up to perform at Tumble Down on Friday after Kitchen Dwellers had flight issues and were unable to play their opening set. Brooklyn funk outfit Turkuaz also treated the large crowd to a set, while pianist Holly Bowling performed in between the Twiddle sets. The Vermont quartet opened with a seven-song first set. Turkuaz guitarist Craig Brodhead sat-in on “Brown Chicken Brown Cow,” while “Beehop” included a taste of “Pawn Shop” (Sublime).

Twiddle guitarist Mihali Savoulidis’s mom was on hand and the band dedicated “Carter Candlestick” to her within the second set. “Carter Candlestick” also featured a tease of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” The show first day of Tumble Down came to a close with a cover of Lipps Inc.’s disco era smash “Funky Town.” Twiddle was aided by Turkuaz vocalists Sammi Garett and Shira Elias as well as the horn section of Chris Brouwers, Greg Sanderson and Josh Schwartz for their first “Funky Town” since February 20 – a span of 41 shows. The vocalist changed the original lyrics to “Won’t you take me to Tumble Down?”

Tumble Down continues and concludes later today in Burlington.
