Turkuaz recently released a new acoustic EP, Live At Sugarshack Sessions. The Brooklyn-based funk outfit filmed and recorded songs from their catalog for the acoustic live music video series in Miami.
The six-song set includes deconstructed takes on Turkuaz favorites like “European Festivity Nightmare” and “Life In The City,” the latter from the band’s 2018 album of the same name. The collection also includes the classic “Tiptoe Through the Crypto,” deep track “Desert Island” and more.

In a statement, Turkuaz frontman Dave Brandwein spoke about his initial trepidations taking Turkuaz acoustic. “Though I loved Sugarshack’s work and had so much respect for what they do, I never could conceptualize a scenario in which Turkuaz would do it,” he said. After some convincing from his wife and then Turkuaz creative director Dani Brandwein, Dave began to see the opportunity in a new light.
“Performing these songs acoustically definitely felt more vulnerable,” Brandwein revealed. “There’s something about having a blaring, hard-hitting force of a band performing alongside you while singing that takes some of the pressure off. But then again, with the vulnerability of the acoustic atmosphere comes a greater awareness and a more emotional connection to the music.
