Bluewater Productions has come out with a comic book documenting the life and times of Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia. Tribute: Jerry Garcia is part of the company’s tribute series of comic book biographies and is available in both print and digital editions.

The comic was written by Michael L. Frizell with interior art by Andre St-Amour and features a cover created by famed rock artist David Frizell. “Does anyone epitomize the age of freedom -or the age of excess -better than Garcia?” said writer Michael Frizell in a press release. “His story is every writer’s dream. Drugs. Rock culture. Conflict. Social turmoil. Unparalleled talent. Humble and rebellious beginnings. Mix them together and you create the portrait of Jerry Garcia.”

“Jerry Garcia, his life and music career, can almost be described as a sort of history of the Baby-Boomer generation. From the early post-war years to the adoption of rebellious Rock’n’Roll mind-set, to the Make Love not War movement of the ’60s, to the drugs and psychedelia of the early ’70s, to the excesses of the ’80s, and beyond. Jerry Garcia was there through it all,” said Andre St-Amour.

This isn’t the first time Garcia has been featured in a comic book. Kitchen Sink Press issued a series of Grateful Dead Comix in the ’90s. The Grateful Dead were also the subject of multiple issues of Rock & Roll Comics around the same time.

The print version of the comic book is available only at Comic Flea Market. Digital copies may also be downloaded to e-readers from iTunes, Kindle, Wowio, ComiXology, DriveThru Comics, Google Play, Madefire, My Digital Comics, Overdrive, Iverse, Biblioboard, Flipkart, Axis360, Epic!, Blio, Entitle, Comicblender.com, Indie Comic Tracker, Wheeler, Scoop, Nook, Kobo and wherever eBooks are sold.
