On October 30 Phish frontman Trey Anastasio will release the long-in-the-making, Stax-inspired Paper Wheels album. Today Anastasio has shared the latest taste of the new LP by way of an animated clip for “Lever Boy” which premiered on Rolling Stone.

The animated clip was directed by George A. Loucas, who came up with the idea for the video’s kaleidscope-like imagery from the die cut gatefold package included within Paper Wheels’ Deluxe Editon. One of the elements of the artwork for the album is a secret code based on Playfair Cipher.

Check out the trippy video for “Lever Boy”:

“After a few tours, a band’s chemistry starts to come together and things start to click,” Anastasio told Rolling Stone about Paper Wheels. “I wanted to capture that feeling on this album, so basically we walked into the barn and just played. What you’re hearing on ‘Lever Boy’ is the sound of a band playing live, together in a room, with very little isolation — with a couple of simple layers added, very quickly. The album was tracked in about two days, and we rarely did more than one or two takes of each song.”

Trey Anastasio hits the road with TAB starting in Brooklyn on October 16.
