Newport Folk Festival Adds Trey Anastasio To 2019 Lineup

Trey Anastasio is the latest act to be added to the lineup of the 2019 Newport Folk Festival. The Phish guitarist will perform a solo acoustic set at this year’s event, which will be held at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on July 26 – 28.

Organizers of the Newport Folk Festival partner with each acts on the bill to donate to a music education charity. Newport Festival Foundation in partnership with The Mockingbird Foundation has made a donation on behalf of Anastasio to support the music program at Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence, Rhode Island. Mt. Pleasant is “an ethnically diverse learning community where most students are the first of their families to receive formal music education, and NFF’s donation and Mockingbird’s match will be used to purchase musical instruments for their students to play.”

“The benefits of music education in the lives of young people are countless, and yet music programs in our schools continue to be seriously underfunded,” said Anastasio. “Thankfully, there are organizations like The Mockingbird Foundation that are on the frontlines of this very worthy cause. The fact that this non-profit organization was founded and funded by the Phish fan community is incredibly inspiring and humbling.”

Anastasio previously played the Newport Folk Festival back in 2008. Tickets for this year’s Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
