Trey Anastasio Guests With Mike Gordon In Tarrytown

Mike Gordon and his five-piece brought their tour in support of Overstep to Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY last night. Gordon’s Phish band mate, Trey Anastasio, sat in on a pair of songs at the end of the evening’s first set, while the second set contained a wild sequence focused on Beatles covers.

Anastasio emerged to add a second guitar to a cover of Talking Heads’s “Cities” and the Mike Gordon/Scott Murawski original “Tiny Little World” at the end of the first set. Trey utilized Scott’s Ibanez guitar instead of his usual Languedoc axe for the sit-in. Murawski provided the vocals for “Cities,” a song Trey sings during Phish performances of the cover.

Mike’s guest-less second set was highlighted by a sequence that found a cover of Flaming Lips’s “Are You A Hypnotist??” found within a cover of The Beatles’s “Tomorrow Never Knows,” which was found within a cover of The Beatles’s “She Said, She Said,” which was found within Gordon’s “Traveled Too Far.” On paper that reads as “Traveled Too Far -> She Said She Said -> Tomorrow Never Knows > Are You a Hypnotist?? > Tomorrow Never Knows -> She Said She Said -> Traveled Too Far.” The five-piece bid the crowd farewell with an encore of Mike’s “Soulfood Man” that segued into a cover of Prince’s “Alphabet Street.”
