Mitski was the musical guest on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The singer-songwriter performed “If I Leave” off her new album Nothing's About to Happen to Me.
Nothing’s About to Happen to Me is the follow-up to the singer-songwriter’s 2023 LP, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We. Mitski’s latest studio effort arrived on February 27 via Dead Oceans.
“For this album, I was insistent on having it be a rock band,” Mitski told Apple Music. “I was like, ‘I want it to be stripped down. I want it to feel like an album from me 10 years ago!!’ But then, once we demoed it, it was like the songs—- it sounds woo woo — but the songs were really asking for more.”
So Mitski reconvened with the band she used on The Land tour to provide the lush instrumentation she was hearing, rounded out by an orchestra in what she called a “monstrosity of all these different instruments.”
In late February, Mitski took to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform Nothing’s About To Happen To Me standout “I’ll Change For You.” Jimmy Kimmel Live is her latest stop on the late night rounds.
