Lady Gaga took to Twitter to show her appreciation for Bob and Trey’s cover of her song:
The Grateful Dead and Phish worlds collided on Saturday at the Wanee Festival in Live Oak, Florida. Bob Weir headlined the action at the final day of this year’s Wanee along with his Campfire Band. Weir welcomed Trey Anastasio, who had performed earlier in the day with his Trey Anastasio Band ensemble.
Bobby opened his Saturday night performance at Wanee as he did all Campfire Tour stops – with a solo acoustic segment. The Grateful Dead guitarist kicked off the set with “Two Djin” > “Corrina” > “Two Djin.” Weir then brought out Anastasio and the duo lit into “Deep Elem Blues.” Trey and Bob immediately began “Friend Of The Devil” after “Deep Elem” came to a close. Next up for the pair was a gorgeous “Bird Song.” While Anastasio had played “Friend Of The Devil” and “Bird Song” during 2015’s Fare Thee Well – Celebrating 50 Years Of Grateful Dead concerts, the last time he performed “Deep Elem” was with Phil Lesh & Friends on October 20, 2007 in Glens Falls, New York. “Bird Song” gave both guitarists a chance to show off their instrumental talents as Trey unleashed a moving solo while Bob wove chunky rhythms underneath.
The acoustic segment moved on with the Phish ballad “Miss You.” While Weir sang the Big Boat track when he appeared with Phish in Nashville last October, Anastasio handled lead vocals on his song at Wanee. Bob then stepped to the mic after a huddle with Trey and said the pair had one last surprise left. With that, they began a duet of Lady Gaga’s recent single “Million Reasons.” The duo swapped verses on the tune.
Anastasio vacated the stage after the Lady Gaga cover at which point the Campfire Band emerged. Bob and the band mixed songs from Blue Mountain with Grateful Dead gems over the course of the rest of the first set. The second set focused squarely on Grateful Dead repertoire favorites such as “Dark Star,” “Playing The Band,” “Eyes Of The World” and “The Other One” ahead of a “Not Fade Away” > “Ripple” encore.
