Trey Anastasio Debuts Petrichor In Portland
By Scott Bernstein Sep 10, 2014 • 6:30 am PDT

“Petrichor,” which is named for the scent the ground gives off after the season’s first rain, is said to celebrate the process of rebirth and transformation that a storm sets in motion. Anastasio started writing the piece in 2012 while he attended rehearsals for the Hands On A Hardbody and enlisted long-time collaborator Don Hart to orchestrate the composition. The majestic “Petrichor” contains a number of different, beautiful sections that flow nicely into each other and at the conclusion was met by a rapturous standing ovation from the audience.
