Trey Anastasio Debuts Acoustic ‘Mr. Oysterhead’ In Dayton

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio brought his solo acoustic fall tour to the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday night. Anastasio teased the upcoming Oysterhead reunion by unveiling the solo acoustic version of “Mr. Oysterhead” as part of the evening’s encore.

Earlier this week, Oysterhead launched official Instagram and Twitter accounts by sharing an image with the lyric “When all else has been done and said” from the song “Mr. Oysterhead.” Anastasio, Primus bassist Les Claypool and The Police drummer Stewart Copeland went on to announce a pair of shows at Broomfield, Colorado on February 14 and February 15, 2020 that marks the trio’s first performances since a 2006 appearance at Bonnaroo.

“I’m just making this up as I go along, but I’ll try it,” Trey told the crowd in Dayton as he began the acoustic debut of “Mr. Oysterhead” as part of last night’s four-song encore. Anastasio then noted how excited he was to play “flanked by ol’ Les and Stew” in regards to the forthcoming return of Oysterhead. The performance of “Mr. Oysterhead” came towards the end of 27-song show that featured originals from various eras of Trey’s career. “Mr. Oysterhead” was the 200th different acoustic song performed by Anastasio as noted by Phish.net setlist guru Scott Marks.
